The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman post 1

This book is about the stuff we're learning in history and english right now. Slaves. We've watched videos, read chapters in our textbook and stuff. and now this book. I don't really like doing this whole Westward Movement thing. It's boring and stupid. And I can't do my newspaper fast enough! Mueller always has to help me cuz I can't remember how to do everything. Oops, sorry. I'm supposed to be talking about the book. Okay, at the beginning, I thought Jane (or Ticey) was older. I thought she was maybe in her 20's or something. But I guess not. She's just a little girl. It was nice of that colonel to give her a name. Jane Brown. At that part, I thought maybe he was going to take her away and adopt her or something. He gave her his last name, so, yeah. But he didn't. At least the slaves were soon all free. If I had the choice to go or stay, I don't know what I'd do. It'd depend on the person who owned me. If they were nice, then I'd probably stay and earn money for a while, then find somewhere of my own to go. But if they were really mean, then I would probably leave. I'd just find a job somewhere else. But that was probably hard to do, so never mind. Right now, I'm at the part where Jane and the other people who wanted to leave are in the swamp or wherever they are. People are looking in the bushes for the slaves, and beating them if they find one. That's so mean! Why would they do that? They're free, aren't they? I guess people just didn't like the idea of African-Americans being as free as they were. I don't know. I hope the evil people don't find Jane. I don't think they will, though, because it's at the beginning of the book, and she wouldn't get killed right then. I also hope that Jane makes it to Ohio and finds Colonel Brown, cuz he seemed really nice and caring towards Jane.

Call of the Wild post 5

it's kind of weird that Buck keeps seeing that caveman guy, but he's not really there. it's like he's seeing his past, and becoming like his ancestors. Buck has been in the wild for so long that he's turning into a wolf, and keeps going deeper and farther into the wilderness, away from John Thornton. It's the CALL OF THE WILD. i think the author made a good decision in what to title his book. in 4th grade, i read another book by Jack London. it was called White Fang. that book was also about a wolf, and from what i remember, it was pretty good. the first time that Buck ran with the timber wolf, i thought it was a ghost or something. i don't know why. it's probably because the book had been talking about how he kept thinking about his past and his ancestors and stuff. i didn't really understand why Buck kept following that wounded moose. he made it suffer, and wouldn't let it eat or drink. why didn't he just kill it at the beginning? hmmm....i don't know. well, i can't remember if it was right after that or not, but when Buck went back to John Thornton's camp, it was so sad! the evil Indians killed everyone and all the dogs. but i'm glad Buck got mad and attacked them, because they deserved it for killing john and everyone. i thought that Buck was going to stay by the pool where john was killed, but i was wrong. he realized that he was no longer owned by anybody, and could do whatever he wanted. i'm glad he found a pack of wolves to live with. it was cool how the indians said they saw a ghost dog running at the head of the pack. i can picture it in my head perfectly.
yay! i'm done! on to Miss Jane Pittman....
it's Monday, but i'm at home. i'm sick. not too much, but just barely enough that my mom let me stay home from school. besides, i didn't want to get anybody sick...

Call of the Wild post 4

yay!!! Buck is saved! John Thornton is so nice to take him from Hal Charles and Mercedes. Buck was very smart to not get up, because he knew something bad was going to happen on the ice. if he had gotten up, he would have fallen through the ice like the other dogs and the stupid people. they shouldn't have risked going over the rotten ice. i wouldn't take that risk. John didn't try to save them, but i guess there wasn't really anything he could have done. i'm so glad that he took Buck out of the traces, though. he was so weak, and could not go any farther. he was pretty much at the point where he just wanted to die. how sad. but now Buck has a great life with John. he's so loyal to him. Buck attacked someone who hit John or something. he rescued him from drowning. and he won money for him. that's the part i'm at right now. the last chapter. well, John's other dogs, Nig and Skeet, are very nice to Buck. that's surprising, 'cause a lot of dogs try to pick fights with him or just don't like him. Skeet helped clean his wounds. it's so good that Buck is finally back to normal, maybe even better than he used to be. when John and Matthewson started talking about Buck pulling 1000 pounds, i knew he could do it. it's a huge amount for one dog to pull, but Buck is different. i bet he could do almost anything. and he did pull that sled. he made John 1600 bucks richer. wow. even though it's just a book, it kind of seems like it's real, and it actually happened. oh well. i don't know. yes! i only have one more post to go! and one more chapter. wow. i used to be so behind, but now i'm all caught up! see ya...

Call of the Wild post 3

Hal, Charles, and Mercedes are SO dumb! they have no idea what they're doing! they put way too much stuff on their sled, don't know how to care for the dogs, and don't take anybody's advice. i knew they were going to be stupid when it said that their camp was all messed up and stuff. and when they didn't fold the tent up right. i feel sorry for all the dogs. if i were Buck, i'd try to run away during the night. Charles and them just don't realize that they have to let the dogs rest. i can't believe that they traveled 2500 miles. that's such a long way. it said that when they were on the record trip, they traveled 40 miles a day or something. If i were a dog, which i'm glad i'm not, i don't think i would ever be able to do that. the way the author described how the dogs looked was really sad. he said that they looked like skeletons. Hal and Charles and Mercedes deserve to be suffering like they are. they should be taking better care of their dogs. already a bunch of them have died. and Mercedes is so stubborn because she keeps riding on the sled, and that adds 120 pounds. i hope someone buys the dogs from these stupid, stupid people.

Call of the Wild post 2

this book shows what it's really like in the wild. and how much animals can change if they're in the wild for too long. when all those starving huskies came to the camp looking for food, all the sled dogs went crazy. it really sucks for them and Francois and Perrault because they took almost all of their food. if i was them, i'd probably store my food in a better place, like up in a tree or something. but maybe they didn't have a lot of time to do that. i have a question: what's a courier? i know that's what perrault is, but what do they do? i'm guessing they bring packages or something to other cities, delivering stuff. when one of the sled dogs saw a rabbit, and then all of them started chasing it, was kind of cool. because it said that there were all these sled dogs and huskies chasing a rabbit, with buck in the lead. i can't imagine seeing that. it's kind of funny, if you think about it. but i guess they're starving, so, yeah. i'm a little glad that buck killed spitz. he was a bully. he just couldn't leave buck alone, and always had to get on his nerves or start a fight with him. but the rabbit thing was the last straw for buck. when they first started fighting, i didn't think buck was going to win. but, he did, and it was a good thing, cuz buck makes a very good lead dog.

Call of the Wild: post 1

i started reading call of the wild. (i've gotten a lot done today!) it's......different. it's kind of cool that it's about a dog, and from his perspective. this book seems like it's moving pretty fast. or maybe it's just because i'm on chapter 3. well, buck has changed quite a bit. he used to be civilized and had a good life. but when he got kidnapped, everything changed. it's so mean what people did to him. they didn't feed him or give him water. and then a guy beat him with a club! it made me mad. but now, buck has adapted to being in the wild, and is getting used to being hurt and being in pain. i don't really understand why he was taken though. i know it had something to do with him becoming a sled dog. but how could his owner just let him be taken like that? i'm sure he had no idea, though, so you can't really blame him. it's sad that that one dog, curly, was killed in the beginning. i didn't know it was a girl until that part. she didn't really have anything to do with the story, and she seemed kind of unnecessary. but i guess it was to make buck realize how thinks worked out in the wild. Mueller--aren't you proud of me? i finished all my shane posts in one day, started call of the wild, and made a post on it! yay! i'm so happy i'm all caught up.

Shane post 5

yes! i'm almost done! shane changed a lot throughout this book. but when he finally put his gun on, that was a turning point. and when he got all his things to put on his horse, i knew he wasn't going to come back. when shane knocked out joe or whatever he did, i was confused. marian wasn't even surprised, so i thought shane and her had a secret plot or something--i don't know, it was just my imagination running wild. i thought shane had killed joe. but i was way off. then i realized that he wanted to take care of his own business and didn't want joe involved. it was actually kind of smart, what he did. when shane shot those two guys, it seemed like he was a little sad. like i mentioned before, he usually seems kind of down whenever he hurts someone. but i guess i'm kind of glad that fletcher was shot. he was evil. now joe and his family doesn't have to worry about selling property anymore. but it was really sad when shane left. i could picture him on his horse, and bobby standing there crying. poor bobby. imagine having your role model ride out of your life, just like that. and when joe wanted to move, marian made him realize that shane was still there, he'd left his mark, and he'd always be there. i read that last chapter about a million times. Shane turned out to be a very good book.

Shane post 4

why is everyone after shane? he hasn't even really done anything. except beat up chris. but still. it's probably because he works for joe, and fletcher is trying to get joe to move. when shane beat up all those guys in the saloon or wherever it was, i was really surprised, because he did it all by himself, with only a little help from joe. the author was really good at describing the fight, and i felt like i was right there watching. marian was right--shane is dangerous. but as joe said, not to the starrets. i can't believe fletcher hired a personal killer. and then he had him shoot ernie wright because he wouldn't sell his property! i'm so glad it's not like that anymore, where some people are isolated, and police can't get to you in time. it sucks that fletcher and wilson can just get away with something like that. i wish fletcher would just leave the valley forever and never bother the homesteaders again. but it's just a book. things like that probably did happen back then, though.

Shane post 3

i don't really understand the whole thing with fletcher. it seems like he is a big boss or something, and owns land. i don't know. i don't understand what his cowboys do either. do they just work on the farm or something? oh well. at first, this book seemed kind of boring, but it's really not that bad. it has really good descriptions and stuff. i think it was a good idea for joe to ask shane to stay on and help him with the farm. he works hard, doesn't complain, and gets things done quickly. the whole thing with chris was cool because he didn't get mad. when chris was talking about soda pop, shane ordered one just to make chris mad. shane just kept calm and walked out of there. but the next time, chris wasn't so lucky. i feel sorry for him that he had to get beat up so badly. but it was kind of sad when shane went and wiped the blood off of chris's face, because shane always seems sad and depressed after he hurts somebody. it was nice, though.

Shane post 2

if i were the starrets, i don't know if i would just let someone stay in my house like they did with shane. i mean, he didn't even tell them his last name, where he's from, and why he just rode into town. that's a sign that he could be a murderer or something. but i guess joe has a good feeling about him. and when that guy was trying to sell a cultivator to him, shane told joe that he was asking an unfair price. and joe believed him. i don't think he's gonna end up being a criminal or whatever. he seems loyal to joe, i guess. and when he started cutting up the stump--that was cool. if i were joe, then i'd be kind of embarassed, because bobby was talking about how he couldn't get through any of the roots. then shane goes and cuts through one pretty fast.

Shane post 1

i'm already done with this book but i'll just pretend i'm not.
okay, shane seems....different. there's something he's hiding, i just don't know what it is. before i started reading this book, i had no idea what it was about. i thought shane was gonna be the name of a kid or something, but i was way wrong. at the beginning, it says "he rode into our valley the summer of '89" i'm guessing this means 1889, not 1989. cuz shane (the book) talks about a lot of things we're doing in history right now. territories and westward expansion. does anyone know how old bobby is? i'm just wondering...cuz he seems around 12 or 13. maybe it says in the book but i just can't remember. oh well.

Tom Sawyer last post

becky and tom are back together. becky has this big party, and they go to a cave. everyone is having fun and goofing around, and tom and becky wander off on their own. i probly would have done the same thing, cuz it'd be so cool to just explore around a huge cave with somebody. well, after a while, they can't hear the other kids anymore, and realize that they're lost. tom tries to guide them out, but they just get even deeper into the cave. they find a spring and stay there. tom had a piece of cake in his pocket and gave half to becky. soon, all their candles were used up. i would have only burned my candles when i had to. i wouldn't just let them burn while i was eating or something. but maybe they didn't have matches. that would suck. tom had some kite string so he decided to look for a way out. he tied one end of a string to something and went down different tunnels. he'd follow the string to get back. tom's pretty smart. by this time, becky is too weak to do anything and just wants to die. but then tom finds a way out and forces her to get up. finally they get out. tom and becky were lost for a couple days. oh yeah, tom saw injun joe in the cave. so, him and huck go into the cave a secret way and find this little cavern thing, the treasure was in there, and some guns and a whole bunch of other stuff, too. so, tom and huck are now rich. injun joe was found dead at the mouth of the cave. yes! i'm finally done with my tom sawyer posts. now i just need to start shane......this is really bad! i'm so behind!!!! we were supposed to have 5 posts on shane by friday. it's now sunday. sorry!!!! oh yeah..... HAPPY EASTER everyone!

Tom Sawyer post 4

okay, a while ago in the book, tom and huck witnessed a murder. they decided to keep it a secret so injun joe wouldn't kill them, too. i think they should have told somebody, and then injun joe would have been hanged or whatever and they wouldn't have to worry anymore. well, anyways, tom had to go to court. and when he started to tell about what he'd seen, injun joe jumped out the window. people looked for him, but he was long gone. oh, tom and huck decided that now they want to dig for buried treasure. so, there they are, digging under a tree or something, when they decide to go in the haunted house. tom and huck are just messing around and decide to go upstairs. i wouldn't have done that if i were them. but they did, and then injun joe and this other guy come in! so tom and huck hide and can hear the conversation. joe has a bunch of money, and they're gonna hide it in the haunted house. but they just happen to find some other treasure, and take it. when injun joe goes upstairs, tom and huck almost get caught. i'd be so scared. well, i gotta go make another post. bye.
