my essay

here is my horrible essay....cuz we're supposed to post it. i did this in one night, so it's REALLY REALLY bad. and i couldn't really compare stuff either, cuz we haven't learned about any of these time periods in history! i'm not having a good afternoon/evening....

Johnny Tremain, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer are three very different books. But they do have one thing in common; they are all historical fiction. Each book takes place in it’s own time period. In History, we haven’t been learning about any of those certain time periods. But in English we did. We read a book called April Morning, and it took place during the Revolutionary War, just like in Johnny Tremain. In this essay, I will compare/contrast what I have been learning in history and English with what I have read in the three historical fiction books.
To begin with, Johnny Tremain was the first book we read. It takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, in the late 1700’s. Johnny Tremain is a 14-year-old blacksmith’s apprentice, and plans to become a great silversmith. But his dream is ruined when his hand is burnt by molten silver, and he can’t use it anymore. Despite his disfigured hand, Johnny gets to be a part of the Boston Tea Party, which leads to the Revolutionary War. This relates to the book we read in English a couple months ago, called April Morning. Both books take place in the Revolutionary War time period, and are about a teenage boy. They are different because Johnny does not actually go into battle, but the boy in April Morning does. Like I mentioned before, we have not learned about this time period in history class yet. I didn’t really enjoy Johnny Tremain that much.
Next, we read The Witch of Blackbird Pond. I really liked reading this book. It takes place in Connecticut, sometime after the Revolutionary War. Kit, the main character, moves from Barbados to Connecticut to live with her aunt and uncle. She doesn’t fit in at all, and has a hard time adjusting to all the work she has to do. Kit makes friend with an elderly woman named Hannah, who is the outcast of the village. She is believed to be a witch by the townspeople. Hannah is a Quaker. But Kit knows that she is not really a witch. Again, we have not really learned about this time period in history, either.
Finally, I’m in the middle of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I’m not exactly sure when it takes place, but I’m guessing it was somewhere in the 1800’s. Well, Tom Sawyer is a teenage-boy living in Missouri. He gets into a lot of mischief, and is good at tricking people out of their money and goods. This relates to what we are learning in history right now a little bit. We are learning about how the explorers traded with other countries. In Tom Sawyer, he makes several trades with the other boys, and it is a big thing with them. Just like in Tom Sawyer, some trades are good and are worth it, but some only benefit one side of the trade. Tom usually tricks people into giving him something good, in return for something not as valuable from him.

To conclude, in history, we haven’t been learning about the time periods that Tom Sawyer, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and Johnny Tremain take place in. We have in English a little bit, though. All three books are realistic, and are about a teenage boy or girl. Out of these books, I liked The Witch of Blackbird Pond the best, and I liked Johnny Tremain the least. It was kind of boring, and had a bad ending in my opinion. I think blogging makes us understand the books better, and is a good thing for the group of Honors English students to do, instead of having a whole extra class.

holy crap......that is the worst essay i have ever written............. :' (
